- Sketches:
Before I initiated this project, I had sketched a few human figures both inside and outside the class. These detailed or general sketches helped me build a strong and great perception of human bodies.
- Figure Ground Collages:
Doing this interesting exercise, I kept considering the composition of the images, which would support my final project of this unit.
- Photos of landscapes and figures:
I spent a lot of time shooting photos and choosing them. These images were from Union Square, the Church on 5th Ave 12th St, Empire State Building, and The Lake in Central Park.
For the first group, since my shooting perspective of the church, it gives me a feeling of “rising”. Thus, I try to put it into the dancing man’s body, creating a feeling of joy or excitement.
The second group, considering the colors of lights on Empire State Building, I decide to demonstrate a playful emotion. A “clown” who is playing acrobatics seems suitable for this emotion.
For the last group, the reflective and shimmering lake is always relaxing to look at. My friend and I were boating on the lake and I took this picture. The emotion should be relaxing and lethargic.
- Finished Images:
As you may notice, I do not want my figures to stand lonely on a white or black background. Adjusting the scale, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast, style, etc., I import the images themselves as the backgrounds to enrich the whole frames and to emphasize their specific emotions.
First, obvious thing is I learnt how to use Illustrator and became better on Photoshop. Second, I gradually built a simple perception of the composition of photographs and images. In the future, I wish I am able to develop my own aesthetic sense.
