Process Documentation – Bridge 4

Artist Statement:

As an artist I strive to bring a certain level of education and understanding behind the concepts and ideas that are showcased throughout my work. I consider this aspect of my art as the function in contrary to  the design, which carries out the form. In this project I chose to explore Blockchain Technology through animation and semiotics. Layout, Gestalt Principles and Animation were all mechanisms of design that helped me to  achieve my works intended purpose. Providing the visual and auditory component alongside my written research paper, offered an alternative understanding of the complex fundamentals of Blockchain. I am very proud to have written, animated and showcased a piece of art that taught the class about Blockchain technology and gave them insight into something that is talked about in the media but rarely explained in an intuitive way.

Inspiration:

I was inspired by multiple factors including artists, content creators and other projects similar to my final. Upon initially choosing to explore the subject of blockchain technology I was inspired by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk and his many articles about the blockchain. However, I was most inspired by a youtube content creation channel called “Simply Explained – Savjee.” The channel produced a video titled “How does a blockchain work – Simply Explained” and this video is what really solidified my understanding of the topic and is also what I ended up drawing the most inspiration from. The animation style and the layout of each slide influenced my final design greatly.

Research Thesis:

With the invention and recent implementation of blockchain technologies, a more secure, transparent, and efficient decentralized world economy is possible. Its revolutionary mechanisms will affect how we as consumers trade monetary and physical assets everyday. In effect, completely removing the need for financial institutions such as banks.

Related:

My Bridge 4 project in studio is related to my research thesis because as a whole it attempts to answer the argument in my thesis by visualizing and breaking it down into animations and voice explanations. Through mechanisms such as semiotics and iconography I was able to communicate both my thesis and my supporting claim to the

audience resulting in a better understanding of blockchain technology.
