For Integrative Studio- Shift, our project was to go to Grand Central and sketch the train station and the people inside, as well as take photos. Afterwards, we gathered all of our sketches and started to formulate a story out of it. It was difficult to create a story because it was essentially dependent on chance, the photos we took, and the sketches we made. Once we had a story, we had to figure out a form of representation. For my form I decided to compile each page with a metal ring- creating a storybook.
The second part of the project was to translate our print story to digital by making a movie on Premiere Pro. I enjoy working on hands on projects because sometimes digital programs can feel slightly monotonous pressing the same buttons over and over. However, I enjoyed working on the video better because it felt easier to translate the story I created through transitions, sounds, and zooming in and out of frames. I found it difficult trying to create a story and execute it through print, based off of my sketches, because the story felt flat and slightly unclear. Through the video, I felt I was able to show the various actions of people while waiting for the train.
