The Rana Plaza incident has placed a heavy burden and pressure on the fashion industry for the past five years.  In this crumbling, unregulated factory of garment workers, there were large cracks and weak foundations.  Yet more than 2,000 workers, predominantly female, were forced in only to be killed in its almost immediate collapse.  The companies that are affiliated with the work provided from this plaza are all large fast fashion corporations that gain large profits from making cheap clothing that is made with cheap and unethical labor.  Since the incident occurred, many factories in other countries for outsourced labor, have upped their buildings and have taken more safety precautions and safe equipment.  However, the industry should not be satisfied with these conditions because the workers are still being taken advantage of.  Fast fashion is a system that must change.  Though outsourcing provides jobs for many people in underdeveloped countries, the treatment of these workers should be on a higher level.  Patagonia is an example of a company that outsources their clothing and produces on a large scale.  However, they provide benefits and fair wages, making their factories better places to work.  They also make clothing from organic materials which is not only healthier and presumably better quality, but it reduces the amounts of chemicals that enter the local water systems.
