This is a self-reflection post and group evaluation of a project we worked on called Bridge Project 3: Multiple Perspectives. In this assignment, we were gathered into groups to analyze the similarities and differences of the two articles we had discussed in class. After listing out the information, we had to make any visual piece that would portray the similarities and differences between Google and Facebook, in this case, we chose to do a Venn diagram. The reason why I am posting is that this is essential and is our first time to work on something that is different from what we do in Integrated Studio class. It is more analytical and requires different perspectives on such a broad topic.
After categorizing the two articles, I started to notice that there are more negative thoughts than positive thoughts. I believe that at the back of our minds, we know that there are flaws to both Google and Facebook. However, it requires a process for our brain to understand those flaws. I think the words or the concept would not solidify into my mind if I just read the articles. Therefore, by creating a diagram or a visual piece that compares and contrast the two ideas would allow me to have a clearer vision of the arguments made in both articles. I think having group members helps broaden the way I think and perceive the main idea. In the beginning, some of my points were more positive, but after looking at what my group members had to say, I was able to see from a different perspective and recognize more of the negative sides of Google and Facebook. I realized that sometimes it is better to hear things from many aspects so that you would learn to know that there are many different ways to approach a topic. Also, I realized how I should try to rely on myself more than just Google everything right away. When I work on an essay or a project, I like to start working on it after knowing the exact thing I want to do. I want everything to be perfect. However, after working on this assignment, I feel like breaking things down might be easier because this group work is very time-limited and we did most of the work during class time. Our group starts brainstorming and listing the positive and negative parts for each of the articles, and it makes the work flow better when we analyze it step by step. I believe that when we try to put the words into the diagram, it was a little challenging because sometimes we do not know how we should interpret the words. Furthermore, we wanted to balance the points in both articles, but it was hard because there are more differences in Facebook’s category.
