Artist Discovery Reflection – May 2019

The artist research I did for artist discovery posts were mostly inspired by bridge project theme I planned to work on or artists that I learned from my other classes. For example, an artist discovery post on Walter Gropius was inspired from my ESL class lecture about his influence on the Bauhaus effect and many modern architectures today. An example of an artist discovery post I did on the bridge theme was Paulo Grangeon. Because of this research on this artist, my Bridge 4 project was mostly based on his idea of wanting to interact and raise awareness about animal endangerment through art. Not only did I learn more about green artists, but I also learned more about how art can really draw people closer to the problem depending on how you design the artwork. For instance, Paulo Grangeon’s work consists of multiple panda sculptures that are spread throughout public space, which caught people’s attention when they are walking outside and seeing the pandas around them. Furthermore, as I look back on the artist discovery posts I believe that I discovered more artists that are not specifically in my field but they have an impactuful visual representation that inspires me to look more into for future references.
