BRIDGE 1: MEMOIR

Original Material: Diving Glasses CaseOriginal Material: Diving Glasses Case

  • I started with my diving glasses case, because in my Memoir essay I wrote about my diving experiences that I missed very much.

Wrapping it up with newprint paperWrapping it up with newprint paper

  •  I used a glue stick to glue the newsprint paper around and inside the case.

ColoringColoringColoring

  • I used water color to paint over the newsprint paper I have glued outside the case. I chose blue mixed with purple because it’s the color of the sea and sky.

Selecting my hand account stickersSelectingSticking those cards inside the case

  • I used the parchment papers and card papers with pictures on them that I have collected for an interest and sticked them inside the case. The elements are about the sky, clouds, birds, moon, sea, and waves, etc.

A "hand" sticker and dark tape

  • I used a “hand” sticker above the opening of the case and dark tape on it and on the top of the case.

  • I used the paillette, which is for make up use, inside the case which I have already finished pasting. (The result pictures were shot by flashlight after I turn my light off)

REFLECTION:

My piece is made of a diving glasses case. I used the newsprint paper and the color paiting to remodel it. For the inside part I used the various styles of parchment papers and card papers to paste them into a collage. I’m trying to express a feeling of a perfect dream in my heart, so I used the colors like blue, purple, and pink to express that thought, because they are colors symbolizing “fantasy”. From the outside part, it is just a normal blue box with a hand symbol indicating someone to open it. Once you open it, you might be really moved by what you see inside. I used these pictures on purpose to create a sense of a dream scene, or to make someone think of the his or her good memories.

I enjoyed most about this assignment is choosing the pictures and pasting pieces together.

The challenges I had with this assignment is that my ideas were never practiced before, so I didn’t really know what it finally will come out just based on my thought.
