This is my sketch for Bridge 2 Project. The reason why I drew it like this is because that I feel really connected to the leaves from a coincidence which I will write in my reflection. My idea was originally out of thought that the leaves will finally be apart from the tree, which made me feel related to my home.
I went out to the front yard of my house, where my dad had planted many kinds of plants. I mainly took the leaves that were withered already and had fallen, and a few fresh ones that were still living. (Because my dad would be mad if he found out about it)
After I finished collecting the leaves, I went back to wash them.
I found a way to put the leaves together, which was to use the thread. I chose a brownish (hazel) color because this color wasn’t too abrupt and was really close to the color of a withered leaf. This was even more fit than black and white.
I started threading the leaves in a line.
This is a finished photo of the leaves that were threaded together. I put them in a circle just like what I drew in my sketch.

Tangled around a lamp.
Tangled around a decoration in the hallway.
On the sofa.

Around a porcelain.
REFLECTION
Basically, a leaf fell on my head while I was out walking on that day, and I was inspired. I really felt like these falling leaves. The tree they were fallen from was like my home, and I as a leaf often left my home because of studying abroad these years. Yet I am also about to leave home again to participate in the the Offsite Program in Shenzhen University tomorrow on 17th, so I think I’m very much alike to these leaves. It also made me think of an old Chinese saying: fallen leaves finally return to their roots. Because of that, my sketch is a circular branch with leaves all over it. This circular shape means that it’s a circular path, which means that I’ll eventually return to my home after all. I put the loop of the leaves that I made around the random stuff in my house, which implies that I will be really missing every details in my house after I leave. So this project mostly is about the leaves, symbolizing myself, having a feeling of an already homesick of my home.
What I learned from this project was that if I observe and think thoroughly over the every details in my life, there will always be something that can inspire me.
The challenge I had was to decide the form that I would make this project into, and the most successful part about my project was that I think I really got to combine my thoughts into my design and expressed it successfully.
