Introduction
The concept of this project mainly consist of 2 parts, the “map” and the “window”. “Map” is a 2 dimensional presentation of a geographical place. The “window” is something that pops out and brings the audience a sense of depth. “Map” is the picture in the frame and “window” is something that breaks the sense of frame.
We are supposed to choose a character, do some researches about him or her, and integrate his story into our “map and window”.
We should add a cartouche with the title of our map. Also, we should create a compass with Adobe illustrator that correlate with our theme.
Hand-drawn elements are also essential in this project. It could be either draw on paper or draw digitally with the drawing tablet.
My Character–Mario
Super Mario is a series of fantasy platform games created by Nintendo featuring their mascot, Mario. It was first released in September 13, 1985. The story of Mario take place in the fictional Mushroom Kingdom. Mario’s aim is to rescue the kidnapped Princess Peach from the primary antagonist, Bowser. He is often joined by his brother, Luigi, and occasionally by other members of the Mario cast.
Mario is the character that accompanied me in my childhood. The first electronic device I own is a Gameboy. I spent lots of time playing Mario Run on it after school everyday. Before smartphone was invented, NDSL had always been my favorite and I kept playing Mario games on it. I did not have enough pocket money to buy all the game disks I wanted to buy so I borrowed some games from my cousin. But I never missed Mario because it was so classic and fun.
This game was a precious memory for me. It always reminds me of the days I did not to worry about any due dates and social relationships. I know that many people are still playing Mario games on new devices such as switch because it helps them to escape from the stressful reality for a little while.
