Space: Rabbit Warrior

I came up with the idea of making a rabbit because I was born in the year of the rabbit and there is a story related to my culture and family.

Before I went to school, I hate eating vegetables. My parents told me every rabbit loves vegetables and if I did not finish the vegetables, I could not be a rabbit anymore. When I grew up and talked about this with my friend who was also born in the year of the rabbit, she said the same thing happened to her and I feel it’s an interesting common memory for people who were born in the year of the rabbit in my culture.

It’s a hilarious moment in my first memories. Rabbit is also my favorite image because it has become part of my self-identity and it is connected to some warm memories.

 

When making the mask, I originally wanted to make something cute, and the concept worked out in the straw model and Bristol model. However, when making the mask out of flashing, the connection between different parts became tighter and the face became more concentrated, looking more unfriendly. So I switched my idea into making a warrior and I added some harder and sharper elements to it, such as the chainmail.

 

I received some negative comments which are very helpful to me.

The transition part could be improved by making it more natural. When I was making the transition, I thought about the shape of the transition and it really confused me. I feel it’s hard to find a balance between maintaining the shape of the head and adding some transitional elements at the same time.

The connection of the chainmail is also something that can be more considerate. Basically, I think it can be improved in two ways. First, the chainmail was not made in an organized way due to my lack of experience and the failures in figuring out the 1 to 4 connecting method. Also, I can connect all the little circles in the first line and make it tight so that the chainmail will not look so floppy.

The proportion of the mask and the volume is a little bit weird because the head is a little bit too large and the ears ar e relatively too small. In fact, the vinyl structure is not that large. Things changed after I continuously adding different layers onto it. I should consider this before making it. I still have the problem of thinking it big.

I also appreciate those positive comments.

The transition looks like a bullet and gives my audience a sense of direction.

The rabbit image I create is punk and different from a traditional childish rabbit image.

The shape and decorations of the ears of the rabbit are attractive.
