Project 5: Sonic Analysis of a Song

I chose Tassel from Cymophane for my sonic analysis. I think making audible things into visual things is really interesting because people are allowed to understand the same thing by using different sense organs.

I used green lines to represent violin, blue lines to represent piano, and yellow hollow circle to represent strong drums and solid circle to represent weak drums.

The length of the lines shows how long does the sound last. The ups and downs shows the pitches of each note. The thickness of the lines are used to present the volume of sound.

The piece my chose is kind of repetitive. But the composer actually some changes to the repetitive paragraph to push the audience’s mood to a climax. Another interesting fact is that all instruments do not show up together at the beginning, the author gradually added the violin and the drums.
