Readings: Anna Atkins Sun Gardens & Cradle to Cradle

When reading novella  Anna Atkins Biography by Larry Schaf. It was captivating to see the different kinds of anatomy captured by plants for me the visualization of an image in a very stylistic form what’s stunning. To see almost a silhouette but in white was very unique I hadn’t seen anything like that before. The method in which the item was transferred onto a 2-D surface was also something new for me to. I had heard of something similar to that but never once actually got to look at it. For me one thing that really stood out was almost a white silhouette that almost ingrained an image in my mind something I wasn’t familiar to and being able to see the minimalism exemplified in nature was captivating for me. I think an interesting thing that stood out to me was the idea of preservation and I guess that’s a question I have was what other ways of preservation can be used today in 2019. For example since I love skeletons with the preservation of life in death be viewed is the same thing as preservation of life in a 2-D surface such as the silhouettes seen in the readings. I think that’s one interesting thing that the readings touch on was was the motif of preservation.

When viewing the second reading by McDonough_Braungart  pages a theme becomes clear within the first couple Pages the idea of waste being a cycle, the reading talks about carbon dioxide missions but how plants use that as a source of oxygen. They’re reading in The beginning talks about the premise that there’s no such thing as waste and that everything gets reused in someway. For me I think that’s true but the underlying problem is when more waste is being then produced then the systems in place to process it then you can influx in the environment an ecosystem and then natural habitats begin to fail because of this influx and that’s where you get a disunity. Overall for me the second reading was more dense with news and less visual and because of that it was harder for me to take in. The readings just kind of cover the basics that I learned in environmental science and because of that for me was pretty good but mostly a refresher. So for me a question I would have is not dwelling on the past but what are ways that we can make the world self-sustaining
