Room Service Matchbox
In my Product, Packaging and Promotion class we were given the project to make matchboxes for a restaurant we were assigned to. I was given a Thai Fusion restaurant called Roomservice. It was very gaudy there were mirrors with ornate frames everywhere, a huge chandelier and serval Buddhas. My designs were inspired by that as well as a bright green pair of chopsticks.
The first idea was for it to be a ring box, the ring would have the striker on it. You would grab the matches from the drawer in the bottom of the box and strike them on the ring.
The second idea was to make two huge matches shaped like chopsticks that would have the striker on the bottom of each so you would flip and strike them on each other.
The third idea was to make an Buddha incense holder. It was placed on a drawer made out of mirrored plexi which held the incense and matches, and when you took the drawer back it had the striker on it. I decided to execute this one.
