RACQUEL COME TO ME, 2015

These three artwork are from Mickalene Thomas, Martha Rosler, and Troy Michie. Although they are created in a different time, It all has the same feature: all these artists used body figures in their works, which is also a common element for most of the artworks. It makes a connection form the artwork to the viewer because the body figure is a content related to every person, it is an important identity of every one. So even they might not have a specific same theme– some are about history, and some are about equality– i think in these three artworks are using identity as a key to making personal connections with the viewer.

Furthermore, all of them use a colleague to create their work. In my oppoion, a colleague is a very includable content, within one artwork, artists can include as many context or informations as the artists want to express to viewers. For example, in RACQUEL COME TO ME, the artists use a lot of different fabric or from which i personally think it represents different and diverse cultures in the world. But in Ojitos, it si simple and clean, but still thoughtful. So the theme of the colleague very depends on how you understand it.
