Research
A huge environmental problem that everyone faces on a daily basis is our immense and unnecessary use of plastic. We use them to make straws, package our food and even to package fruits that don’t need the extra plastic wrapped around it. Plastics are not biodegradable and they are often tossed out, creating a bunch of waste. This topic matters to me and others in my sphere of influence because we produce so much unnecessary plastic waste despite how easy it is to reduce our use of plastic.
Systems Diagram: the UN goal I want to focus on is sustainable cities and communities.
Design
My definition of “Regenerative” means to make use of something even after it has served its original purpose. I plan to make a raincoat or jacket of some kind that is functional but also is a statement piece.
Output Profile: used plastic bags, used plastic boxes, used plastic box covers, straws, used cellophane. Tools needed: iron to melt plastic bags together, sewing needle and thread to thread everything together. The materials needed could easily be collected just from ourselves (for example, I collect and keep all my plastic bags in one place). Any waste made should be recycled.
Activism
My target audiences are those who use a lot of plastic and purchases a lot of things with excess plastic wasted on the “pretty packaging”. I would like to share my work by either having a model wear the piece or I could wear it myself.
