Integrative Seminar 2: Closing Reflection

I’ve always been very interested in all aspects of visual culture, thus why I chose this section for seminar and studio this semester. Through this course, I felt like my understanding of the term visual culture had deepened to beyond just its dictionary definition. Through analyzing advertisements to looking at different artists oeuvre, I felt like we were able to cover a large range of topics within this semester.

A really important skill I took away from this class was how to write a cover letter from the cover letter workshop we had. Although I already had one, I think the workshop really helped me narrow down what was important to keep on it and how to phrase certain job titles to make them sound more appealing.

I was surprised by how intriguing and interesting the readings were each week. They were always in some way or the other, relevant to what we were doing in class and I was able to learn a lot from each reading, notably the ones about advertising and the importance of design.

I was challenged by researching about my final project as I was dealing with such a broad topic and I had to narrow down and pick which sub-topics to focus on. I found that although it was challenging to research about a concept I had barely any knowledge about, it aided me in creating artwork that was meaningful and impactful.

The research we did about our final project and our final paper was a crucial element of what pushed me to do my best work for the final project. Although difficult at first, the artist and general research I did for my final project helped me coagulate my concepts and transform them into artworks. By understanding the issue that my project was addressing, I was able to figure out a way to articulate my message to the viewers through my art in an effective way.

This semester’s seminar class has certainly taught me a lot and I am very grateful for everything I learned in studio and seminar this semester.
