This response piece was inspired by “Possible Structures Potential Sculptures Plausible Spaces” by Superficie. The artist, Miguel Nobrega, write codes that the machine follows with colored pens as the patterns are drawn a line by line onto a piece of paper. Realistic 3-dimensional structures are drawn line by line using these codes and the colors, to me, make the viewers feel like they are looking at the piece through 3D glasses.

The key concepts that speak to me in these pieces of art are the seemingly consistent irregular lines. They seem very straight and were methodologically drawn to create a perfect looking 3-dimensional structure, however, upon closer inspection you can see that the lines aren’t perfectly straight and you can see where the pen runs out of ink at certain points. I am very intrigued by the idea of producing something seemingly perfect using precise codes and imperfect lines.
I decided on creating this for the response piece because I wanted to use simple block colors to represent the simple methodological way the patterns were created.
I started by creating simple shapes. I chose to create 3D shapes in the piece just like the other art pieces in the online art gallery using simple lines. The art pieces inspired me to create these shapes by filling in two boxes of the same color with different shades and using lines to connect them to make a 3D shape.
After I drew in some of the shapes I wanted, I was suddenly inspired to incorporate photos into the response piece as I felt like it would add my own personality and interpretation into it.
