Your Name: Joy Hsu
- Doing the Collage work felt relaxing, fun, stress-relieving, exciting, rewarding
- Doing the Rules work felt fun, quick, captivating, enjoyable
- In making the work, I was surprised by how well both series turned out. Although I had a clear vision of what I wanted to do for the entire collage series I didn’t have a definite plan for each piece. However, after I made the first two collages (cereal and chairs piece), I realized my “organized chaos” art style and really just let my ideas flow. I was surprised by how quickly I did the rules work despite how detailed I was able to draw the images
- I would like to continue/develop/do more of illustration work which includes typography and contemporary themes. I really enjoy working with these three concepts as it inspires me to be more creative with my ideas.
- I wish I could have done a better job with trying new mediums but I felt like I wouldn’t be able to create good work with foreign mediums I am not as comfortable with (such as watercolour). I also wish that I had done a better job with cleaning up the edges for my Rules work
- I like the way the Rules work came out because they were so cohesive and clean, which was the style that I was going for.
- I’m thinking of doing A large scale illustration piece printed on bristol (or any other matte surface) using a colourful palette depicting spaces for my final project
- The Seminar readings and activities that made the biggest impression on me in the context of Studio work are the pantone “color of the year” article and the activity where we made a presentation analyzing an ad of our choice. I felt like I learnt a lot about how advertisers think and promote their products and this led me to apply those theories into my art.
