Bridge 4: Serial Vision – Part 1

For this assignment, my goal was to create a “film-like” storyboard using SceneForge Studio.

Right off the bat, I want to say that while the process is incredibly rewarding, it’s doubly difficult because I have to frequently fix bugs and add features on a technical level to be able to do certain things for the project.

I originally wanted to use similar framing to Ralph McQuarrie to make an adaptation of DeCamp’s 1939 short story, “The Gnarly Man,” but that proved too difficult, simply because I couldn’t find 3D models that fit well.

I did do a few test shots, which can be seen below:

I decided to change the story to something I came up with, inspired by Pixar Shorts:
A boy builds a robot on earth.  After being surrounded by the sci-fi films his creator watches, the robot longs to go to space.  He finds his own way and ends up on the moon.
Simple, to the point, and easily communicated with still images.  Though, with the right script, I can see this being a fantastic animated feature.  But that’s not relevant…

As of right now, I have a few shots of the robot in a scene, though I probably will edit the robot’s design.  I will only use one of these in the final series.

Since the previous part of this post, I created a few more frames of what will be a complete film storyboard.  The final plan is to have 9 completed images.  Here is the first half:

As previously mentioned, I used models from SketchFab.com, as well as a custom-modeled robot.
