When I arrived at Times Square, I thought that the installation would be easy to find. I thought since it was an installation, it would be well known and super crowded. To my surprise, it was the opposite of this! The Max Neuhaus installation was very hidden. It took me and my partner a while to find. It was integrated into the streets, so it wasn’t apparent to us that the installation was actually right in front of us. I really enjoyed the fact that the installation was incorporated into the surrounding area. It can only be found if you really were paying attention to your senses. If you were paying close attention to what you were hearing, instead of being distracted by the busy area around you, you can experience Max Neuhaus’ installation. The sounds that came from the crate felt very creepy and eerie to me. They weren’t normal sounds I heard everyday. They were very machine-like in a way. It was a very simple installation. Just to stand there and be presence of the art installation, then move on with your day. To me, its a cool small detail you could discover in a crowded, loud, busy city. In a place like this there isn’t much room to see the small details around you everyday. So, I enjoyed this installation, because it emphasizes the idea of being present in your surrounding. Really noticing what is around you everyday.
