I’m an 18 year old New Yorker, that draws inspiration from the street art that has surrounded me since childhood. My preferred medium has always been photography, but as I’ve grown older I now work with mixed mediums like paint, collage and digital work. My art focuses on the important issues of our day and age. My goal is to share these messages with the largest audience possible in hopes of creating change or conversation.
After looking over all my work, I found that the theme of examining identity and bringing light to social issues comes up many times in my work. Overall in my classes I have learned how to utilize my resources to create art. In space and materiality I learned how to use the laser cutter and the tools in the wood shop. In time class and Studio class, I perfected my skills in almost all the Adobe programs. In my seminar class I refined my skills in writing. Including learning how to write an artist statement and a bibliography. All great skills that I needed to become a better artist. My favorite project that I have done in Seminar was the final project that I submitted. This project was successful because it really related to topics that I am passionate about. My most successful project in Studio class was the 7 day process. It made me think about my ontology and why I do things as an artist.
As an artist, the best way for me to examine my ideas is to look my my mood board which is full of images and words that inspire me. This helps me narrow down specifics that I need to turn my ideas into something. Another way I do this is by writing down all my ideas. This settles my brain when there is too much going on. It helps me calm down and focus on one thing at a time.
One things I want to learn is if the time I am putting at this school will actually be beneficial in the long run.
