This is my first idea which includes a bouquet of ‘money’. I will make flower-like objects (appearing as roses) out of money to show how you can look at this particular bouquet and see flowers or you can simply see money – it shows two different perspectives of money and what it represents which relates to my seminar essay in the sense that your perspective on misfortune and fortune is dependent on the person, this means, you could have everything someone else could want in the world and still consider yourself unfortunate and hate your life. It is all depending on perspective which is the big idea I want to focus on for this project. As well as ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’. I would make this bouquet life size (like a normal bouquet) and use photocopied and printed dollar bills in order to make the roses.
The next idea – similarly to the first one, is the idea of making a four leaf clover (symbolizing luck) and closing it as a flower or a rose and depending on where you are viewing it from you see something different. One side has many dollar bills and is a much greener and lively color and the other side has rotting dollar bills (represented by the brown color) and much less dollar bills. I chose to keep the 1 dollar bill rather than add maybe 100 on the other side to show the fact that two people may have the exact same things in life (the dollar bill) and view it completely differently. This once again relates the theme of ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’ which is almost literally applied to this project since the other side is in fact greener. For this piece I would make it similar to the size of a rose and I would use photocopied and printed out dollar bills to make the clover.
The third idea shows an imitation of the dollar bill and instead of having the typical symbols applied on there I have replaced it by a clover (representing luck as mentioned before) to show the idea that money is based off of luck, your life is based off of chance, you cannot choose and its this lack of control that you can let drive you mad in life or that you can accept and move forward with – this idea is portrayed clearly in my essay as well. For this project I wouldn’t make it the size of an actual dollar bill I would make an A3 size to show clearly the parts I have altered and would use watercolor paint and black pen.
