Intro Sequence Project: “Finding Home”

Story Board

Summary

A fictional drama, in which a first-year college teen suffers to find rhythm and comfort within a fast-paced, digitized, unpredictable city of overachievers.  It is the story of a recovering eating disordered patient and her struggles to find body acceptance and self love in a new environment. Ultimately, she finds herself most comfortable and confident while exercising, socializing, and working on ambitious, meticulous, almost draining design projects.

Reading Response:

Chapter 4 of “Understanding Comics” talks about how a panel in a comic is constructed and how each piece of dialogue represents another moment in time. This helped me realize that a single snapshot of time can be sliced into various sections or moments that can either follow each other or not at all.  This inspired me to take the various footage for my film and slice it up into sections that I could intermix with each other to create a patchwork of films, similar to the mixture of various dialogue sequences of a comic panel. These pieces of footage don’t necessarily have to follow a story, but they have to communicate a rhythm or a feeling.  The patchwork I created effectively conveyed a message: that as the mind flips through various memories, there are simultaneous stories occurring.
