The article seeks to explain the theoretical underpinnings of timescales in order for designers to best maximize one’s potential for transmitting intended meanings through graphical representations. Some visuals of time have actual paths within them and contain figurean that literally face the future. This information assisted in the creation of my own ordinal scale timeline project, which portrays the life of a chicken, and seeks to question the original form of life on earth. I applied societal reading patterns to the path of my timeline by making the pathway a circle that reads clockwise. The primary advantage of circular representation is that there is never a break in time, constantly emphasizing continuity. In addition to being an effective representation of cyclical motion, my project’s circular timeline is also an economical use of space since it can be used to represent all stages of a chicken’s life.
