Process Steps:
1)
My Mood Board was a large part of inspiration for my project, Rebuilding Systems + Networks. I specifically focused on the center image of fabric acting almost as a curtain but against the wall. I also looked at my mood for my color palette and different tones to include. I decided from the beginning that I wanted to create a living room that is cozy and feels like home. After I began adding interior designs to my piece I made the decision to create a new mood board because I originally had a monochromatic color palette. The use of a warm color palette with earth tones allowed me to create a higher impact of the feeling of coziness and relaxation.
2)
This is the curtain that is from the center photo of my mood board. I focused on this and went in with detail to each strand using a micron pen and created smaller strands. I wanted to leave it as a drawing to add to the comfort I was trying to achieve in the piece. When placing it into Photoshop I inserted it twice and flipped the second photo to create a full curtain look. I also did this to give the project some movement instead of only having flat surfaces. I placed the photo of my inspiration in the center of the mood board because I was drawn to this style and texture. It gave the project texture in a way I felt I couldn’t do digitally. Without adding this in the project I feel it might have felt flat and like there is no texture or movement. The strands are not perfect in a good way and even the way they are vertically hanging appears to look like they are moving or swaying. This process is one of my favorite parts about the Rebuilding Systems and Networks project.
3)
This process step is before furniture. Before I added my furniture I wanted to focus on the background and foreground. The background is the fireplace, windows, and curtain, and the foreground is the wood flooring. I wasn’t able to make the brick perfect but I used the stamp tool to continue the bricks to create a fireplace and continued with a mantel that I carved out with the lasso tool. One of my favorite parts about this project is that I experimented with a lot of different tools in Photoshop and took my time to try different things. I learned a lot and that is part of why I chose this project. Not only did I work on my Photoshop skills but I also worked on my perspective, especially editing the windows.
Overall Process:
Overall, I started with a very clear idea of what I wanted my project to look like and through the process I began to change aspects of the piece such as adding wood floors and not carpet, and adding my drawing of the curtains. This is another photoshop project where I practiced with perspective and making sure everything was going to the vanishing points. In general I am happy with how it turned out and that even though I had a clear vision of the what the interior would consists of, the color palette changed. To me it made more sense to have warm tones rather than the monotone palette I originated with. I also could have gone in with my pen tool for the white fabric curtain however I decided to insert my drawing and leave it as it is because it gives the piece character and a presence of life even though we don’t see any in the room. I also chose this project because I added my tracing artifacts on the floor pillow which are very significant to me. Here you get so seen more of me and learn what I like. I’m not the type of person to go out a lot or have a bunch of friends, I enjoy the smaller things like staying in and watching a funny show with my sister or just cuddling up by the fire with a hot chocolate. In life sometimes simpler things are what can spark happiness. I tired to convey this in my project and it may not be completely evident immediately when you look at it but when I explain my thought process it makes sense.
Here is a jpg saved of the final project. As you can see the warm tones are captured through the fire, furniture and the sunrise peeking through the window. When I look at this project I immediately think of home even though it doesn’t look exactly like my family room. I wanted to make it look homey but homey for everyone, not just me. Of course this idea of home is completely subjective but if someone looks at this and thinks of their own family room and a nice day in with loved ones, then I will be happy and my purpose in this art piece will be complete.
