Travelling is an almost introspective look at two stories of journeying south, both the stories and the reflection by Paley, fifty years later, are oddly reminiscent of the feeling of New York, and the mission of The New School. Both Paley’s mother and herself were strong and resilient against obvious discrimination and racism. Through analysis of the perspective, the audience gathers that the Paley family is Caucasian with a mindset not from the south nor the time period; they are ‘forward’ thinking and believe that the color of one’s skin shouldn’t decide a person’s place in society. This thought process can be drawn out to a larger scale such as ‘21st-century thinking’ and justice, equality, and equity, all of which are suggestive of The New School mindset.
