Final Project for Space and Materiality

Space and Materiality Final-2l89lpo

For my Space and Materiality final the prompt was to make an ‘architectural’ model of a building or experiential space on Mars. I decided to create what I call the ‘Dune Explorer’ which is a raised pavement/sidewalk to explore and see the sides of the sand dunes on Mars as well as a clear set of stairs that leads to a slide to explore an overhead and underneath view of the sand dunes. It is meant to be a playful and experiential place, similar to a children’s park or playground. Although the purpose is for children’s exploration, it could also be very useful for scientific exploration and research.

In my piece I used a variety of materials such as cardboard, plastic, foam, wood, and a variety of paints, to recreate the surface of Mars as well as imitation dunes and my ‘Dune Explorer’

Overall, this piece, I felt very accomplished with. I don’t have much experience with 3D sculpture like this prior to this class, and I feel like I have really grown and was able to clearly explain my idea through the materials I used.
