SOUTH VIETNAM. Saigon. 1968. Woman injured by helicopter fire.
Because of the flat and reductive way this piece is designed, I feel that it really speaks to the way that the photo highlights war in a place. Although the -technically- central figure, the woman, has a distorted and funky shape when reduced to a simple silhouette, the things that stand out are the place/background which includes the figure walking with a carrying stick over the shoulder which helps to define place more. The other thing that is very distinctive is the strong silhouette of the soldier, the rifle really adds to the effect. I believe that what becomes prominent is the idea of war.
