A3: Wire Studies

Throughout this project, I was assigned to participate to draw haptic contour drawing on my sketchbook which was the drawing skill that was new for me. Then I had to select the best ones and translate into wire drawings using only one material wire. My first impression on this assignment was uncertain and confusing due to the fact that both haptic contour drawing and the material wire were not the skills and material that I’ve never used to work with. Despite this fact, I pushed myself to work with this material. Since it was hard to control the wires, I was unable to produce what I really planned to make. But I was able to learn how to use wires in a variety of ways and I produced all the works in the unique style of mine by continuously overlaying the wires together. Firstly, for the 3D  portrait sculpture, I combined all three portraits together and made three sides of faces in one sculpture. For the next sculpture, I tried to describe the wrinkles and shadow of my hand by connecting and overlaying the wires together. For the last sculpture, I wanted to make each sculpture more distinguishable. Therefore, I put more effort into overlaying wires together then made three glasses of different sizes. The process of making each art piece made me focus and seek for details. Moreover, the making process was meditating for me because I could only focus on forming my pieces. Overall, I believe this project was successful. It helped me to develop my artistic skills in making and using new tools. Furthermore, I overcame the fear of uncertainty and rather embrace a challenge that was given.
