Reflection on Grace Paley’s text

Regarding the text written by Grace Paley, I would like to comment on the things that called my attention. It surprised me that just by moving to another town the people assumed such strict social roles that every one modified their behavior. They knew that passed certain town the white people had to sit at the front and the black people at the back. This shows us how different communities that surround us have an impact on us. Some have more strict social roles that others, an this ends up affecting our lives and the way we behave.
As told by Grace, she and her family found the racial barrier wrong and refused to behave in the same way as the other people. Despite being a part of the same country and culture, they didn’t engage in that racist behavior. This clearly shows us the impact that our community has over all of us. It could be because of the city her family lived in or because of the people they surrounded themselves with, they chose to defy the social rules even though they were the only ones doing it.
