Figure composition

 

For this composition, I chose three of the figure drawings that we did during the past classes and harmoniously arranged them. It has a strong diagonal from left to right that kind of pulls your eyes to follow that direction when you look at the piece. The three women and the background content make it look balanced and the triangle that they form makes me think of the sculptures of the Three Graces.

The three women are very similar to each other even though they’re not all based on the same model, and are drawn in a very similar way, with open lines and a way of not finishing all the forms. This alludes to many Gestalt principles like similarities, repetition, and continuity. Also, the background elements give the piece a lot of containment and balance, like the window for example.
