Paper Polygons

For this exercise, we had to build perfect polygons using only paper. We couldn’t use glue so our professor taught us how to make slots and tabs in the faces of the polyhedrons to make them stay together. I decided that I wanted to find a way so that the tabs went right into the edge to make them not noticeable and to have a perfect surface, so I cut tabs in all the sides so the slots would be cut right in the edge and will be the exact size of the tabs.

First, we worked with the regular polyhedrons: tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, icosahedron, and dodecahedron

Next, we had to make up another polyhedron and build it just how we did the previous ones. I chose to still work in a symmetrical way and make a 6 point star.

Finally, we had to create a polyhedron that had two different color papers that worked well together. I wanted to challenge myself to create a mix of two polyhedrons and use the two colors to differentiate them. I decided to make an octahedron that looked like it was stuck inside a cube. I drew it and tried to figure out how to make it using only one net that put the whole form together and then make smaller nets for the colored parts. I was really happy with how it turned out and the effect that had of one being trapped inside the other.
