My three ideas
- What is the objective of the piece?
- The objective of our Bridge Project 3 is to create a soundscape that portrays the color yellow through different memories of our childhood. The piece follows a child’s footsteps around a house, entering different rooms. As the child walks around, the footsteps get heavier because it’s a representation of growing up. The different “yellow” parts of their childhood are present in the different rooms and ages.
What are you exploring/questioning?
-
- Childhood
- What is the topic/focus of the piece? Who is the intended audience?
- The subject is a child, growing up through their experiences with the color yellow
- Everybody who wants to indulge in the mundane nostalgia of the everyday routine of a child
- Has any media work already been produced on this subject? If so, what is new, different, interesting, engaging about your approach?
- What you want the audience to experience.
- Feel warmed, happy, light, childlike
My section of the story is the first part of childhood. A kid’s light footsteps entering the living room. You hear the news on tv and the birds outside the windows. The sound of someone sitting on the couch and grandparents talking softly. A lot of the memories that I have from Spain are of my dad and I associate him with the color yellow. Every time I asked for something I wanted he would respond with the phrase: …and I want a yellow car. Meaning that I was not going to get what I wanted. His favorite thing to eat in the afternoon was lemon yogurt so we would always eat it watching the news. As the kid walks around and interacts with the dad and grandparents you hear a breeze that represents the yellowness of summer afternoons.
Inspiration:
- 100 years of solitude: all the descriptions and details that make you feel like you’re seeing and hearing what the characters do. The yellow butterflies and yellow flower metaphors.
