Bridge Project III

For the third bridge project Sophia, Clare, Aidan and I did a sound piece that represented our childhoods through our memories of the color yellow. The soundscape tells the story of a girl as she grows up. Every different room of the house or physical space, like the car and the school, represents a different period in our childhood.
First, the living room. Most of my memories that relate to the color yellow are from when I lived in Spain. I was very little and I remember many interactions with him that now I associate with that color. For example, every time I said that I wanted something and he didn’t want me to get it he would say: “and I want a yellow car”. Meaning that neither of us was going to get what we wanted. I remember the dry summers that I spent with him and the rest of my family and the warmth of the color yellow makes me think of that.
Every team member had a different age period and together they made up a day of the kid’s life but at the same time, it represented the different stages of growing up. First the living room, then the car, the school and finally the kitchen.
To show the passage of time through the soundscape the girl had little conversations with her dad that showed the change in her voice and her present situation. Also, we chose to create different leg wire sculptures in our image and display them from little to big, just as a kid’s leg would get growing up. Each leg is filled with different elements that represent our memories in that age period and different space. The first leg is filled with little pillows because of the living room, the second leg has trees and dogs, the third one has cars and the fourth one has kitchen supplies.
