Assignment #6: Read chapter 1- INSPIRATION, The Design Process book

  • To get from the world of imagination to the world of objects we must begin at inspiration
  • Inspiration has to be the force that makes designers work on a project and that energy must be perceived in the final product
  • Inspiration keeps a designer moving forward
  • We must seek inspiration and not just wait for it
  • Myths about inspiration are not true and an artist doesn’t need an emotional imbalance to feel inspired or creative
  • Inspiration can be achieved when we follow our emotions, control them and rein them
  • Inspiration thought or ideas don’t go away once they are out
  • The momentum that we get once inspiration is out can lead us where we want to go if we chose our first steps well
  • Seeking inspiration must not make us lose our way in another artist’s work
  • We can seek inspiration in other fields or topics
  • Inspiration can come from anywhere, even from unexpected places
  • Designers have to be alert for new stimulation, challenges and new ways of thinking
  • Create new things that are in the world around us
  • Engage in playtime in order to stimulate creativity: experimenting and thinking
  • Allow our brain to process the information, wait for the Eureka moment
  • Inspiration is just the beginning; designers must go beyond that to create something new
  • Research and couch time must have an end purpose
  • Yeohlee Teng: fashion designer
  • Sometimes less is more: sustainable designs
  • Overworking ideas doesn’t necessarily lead to good results
  • Seek inspiration in a design problem
  • Human needs can be a source of inspiration
  • Functionality can be a source of inspiration
  • Aesthetic can also be a source
