In the documentary Objectified we see many different designers working in the process of design and all the steps that take place. They talk about how everything around us has been designed and how that implies that many decisions have been made in every one of those objects. Every object tells a story if you know how to read it and how all these standardized products should be designed for the “extremes” of the people who will be using them in order to make it useful for all.
We see the design process and how many decisions are involved in making a product, no matter the size. The testing, drawing, making prototypes and 3d printed models to make something that’s actually going to be useful and work when the users buy it.
When talking about a good design they always mentioned the word “efficient”, and also linked the thought process to it. If a product is a good design we can see it in all the little details and how well they were thought and tested to make sure that it can have a long life in different environments and that it will produce as little waste as possible to help the environment. It stuck in my mind what one of the designers was saying about what makes a good design and how good design is as little design as possible.
