Food Self-Portrait

Since moving to New York, I have begun making jam in my free time. Because this was not something I ever did at home, I’m not exactly sure where this hobby came from. So, when assigned the food self-portrait project, I immediately knew that I wanted to do something with jam. For the project, I made three jams: strawberry, blueberry, and peach-apricot. For my skin-tone and facial hair, I used the peach-apricot, for my eyes and hair, blueberry, and for my lips, strawberry. Because jam can go bad easily if left out, I needed to keep my portrait in the fridge so that it could hold its shape (particularly the peach-apricot portions).
