Project 1: Flipbook Animation

Using approximately 230 note cards, I created this stop motion animation. Running at 12 frames a second, this project was incredibly arduous it was equally as rewarding. The decision to add color definitely set me back in the process of making this short animation, but I’m very pleased with how it turned out. In the future, I would love to do full animations in color, although that may seem daunting now.

If I were to digitize another flipbook, I would want to convert each frame to bitmap to make it as clean as possible, although this would not be doable with color.

One of the most fun parts of the entire process was recording audio. Watching along and grunting the sounds that I found appropriate, I was able to quickly bring the piece to life. All sound effects were recorded in my room on my iPhone. The only two that were not were the constant crackling of a fire throughout the animation, and the sound of a plane crashing, which was manipulated through tempo.

Sound effects: fire crackling, plane crashing
