-Reflections-
Victoria Modesta
This video mainly talks about the life of a disabled female fashion model, a modern feminist, who amputated her leg since it was not growing properly due to some trouble at her birth. She talks about her attitude that she wants to “bring equality” to the fashion for the normally-regarded unhealthy.
I personally think she proved to be into the fashion. Wearing, dancing like that, people will not judge her as a disabled. Although she is a rare case among disabled people since she is pretty and has a nice body shape, her spirits are worth learning and revering. She is trying to be the best she can be and I think the purpose of watching that video is to tell us we should have a social responsibility as a designer and try to be the best of who you can be and I am utterly amazed by the spike shoes which outweigh the high heel in my eyes and is considered as next level of dressing.
Neil Harbisson
This video discusses a legendary invention for the color-blinded. Neil Harbisson, as a totally color-blinded person, installed a device at an age of 21 that can identify colors and express them in different sound so that Harbisson can hear and identify by the electronic eyes. He also expanded his “vision” to infrared and ultraviolet since he wanted to perceive them and he hopes people can perceive what they want.
I was totally moved by this video since he, as a disabled person, is not only mentally tough but also have a strong sense of social responsibility in his heart, he wants to bring welfare to people who are born more “complete” than him. Given that many disabled people are actually unwilling to socialize, this guy is brave and not afraid to admit his own flaw, to change, to experiment it, and even to try to bring technologies back to the normal masses for their own welfare while creating a new kind of art with sound-vision graphs. I think this video not only shows how tough and socially responsible a man can be but also try to broaden our horizon on methods to create art.
Lucy McRae
Lucy McRae as an independent designer, or “body architect” as she calls herself, laid out a set of body-perimeter-blurred dressing that is inspired by imagery that provokes human evolution and is made of different materials including plastic pipes. She shows how can technology transform the human body.
I am pretty amazed by the way she did it. In the green excrement-like dress, I can barely identify her roommate’s gender. I think this video is quite inspiring and horizon-broadening even though it is short and I really like what she has done with the pipe dressing. She poured colorful liquids into pipes and made it change color freely like neon light.
