How can ‘disruptive design’ enrich sustainable packaging innovation? by Leyla Acaroglu
For this talk, I really like the angle she picked to cut into the discussion of designing something new to fit the earth instead of blindly forbidden plastics or paper as materials. However, to design more new products to fit the earth can be a way but people should not have this in mind as a limitation while innovating things because, with the thought that plastic cannot be decomposed by the earth in short time, people may probably not refine and extract it out of crude oil.
For me, I would rather use an economic way to solve the problem. In China, stores charge money for plastics bags and because of that, people use toted bag more frequently which is more environment-friendly while lowering the cost. There is even no need for innovation for this problem.
Ergonomics and design
This talk listed out a lot of examples of design with the application of ergonomics. It was a really intriguing experience for me to watch the video since I am a video game “addict”. It attracted we when x-box controller appeared and I knew I was passionate enough to watch the whole video. There are also some designs that are being unnoticed: the plug for laptop, the opener on the can and so on. I was really surprised watching all these daily things being analyzed and found related to the ergonomics. This should be a vital factor to be considered for design because the tool we invented always has a target audience that is human-being.
By the People: Designing a Better America
For this talk, I skimmed since it is too long and it mainly discusses a series of research conducted in human-impacted areas like metro station and rural towns in post-industrial cities and the social responsibility design made after the researches.
It is sweet to watch people with social responsibility traveling around to design for the place that was once influenced by human-being. Besides, given the length of the video, I felt really heartwarming since this video documented enormous numbers of actions presenters have done. For me, I would not say to call for similar action for my motherland, I will just try to incorporate the concept of social responsibility as much as possible into my project.
