Assignment #12 – 3D pattern/ textured CUBES

-Assignment Intro-

This assignment instructed us to use cardboard to create 3 cubes in different sizes (2.5″, 4″, and 6″) and on the surface of each of them, to create textures without using any glue.

-Process-

Actually, I initially misunderstood the requirement and made a wrong model with Bristol paper. Without “manipulating with the surface” as instructed, I manipulated a little bit with space and planes to planes.  🙁

I have to redo it all with cardboard and manipulate with the surface. Guess I had just had a lesson about watching carefully.

-Reflection-

After the experience of getting wrong, I reflected on myself, packing up my negative mood and started to do it all over again. Surprisingly,  I found this assignment quite horizon-broadening. I really enjoyed the way the artist, Mr. Langan, did with the cardboard and found interests in doing the same thing. I discovered that I can hide a drawing in 6 phases and challenge my audience’s imagining ability, besides, I can also cut the board to its strip-like layer or cut it all through or just tear the very upper layer of the surface, which creates different values. Overall, it is extraordinarily useful to learn how to do work with cardboard.
