FASHION STUDIO Explorations in Traditions: Personal Archive

To me sunglasses are like a symbol of my mother, who always wears stylish sunglasses when she goes out. This slowly becomes her very own tradition that only my family members understands. My mother’s iconic sunglasses are in a round, huge shape and the lenses are dark enough that others won’t be able to see her eyes, although they are beautiful.

This particular pair of sneakers has a very personal meaning to me. I’ve studied in a local school, FuHsing, in Taipei, Taiwan since I was 7 years old. It was a school with multiple strict rules such as students are only allowed to wear all-white sneakers with sports uniform and all-black leather shoes with formal uniform. And by all-white, it means no any other colors are excused- including logo, shoe laces, and soles. Unlike other rules, this rule is somehow strangely appealing to me, maybe because I enjoy seeing people in clean outfits at school. This is definitely one of the traditions that will stay in the minds of every FuHsing student.

I used to wear a headband to school everyday when I was in kindergarten. My mother would arrange my hair in the morning, maybe make two braids, and put a headband on me. I used to have tens of headbands and would pick colors and styles acoording to my mood that day. After that, mother and I would go to a breakfast place for a cup of milk tea and a peanut butter toast.
