STATEMENT

Throughout this module, I feel that my ability to site and translate what I see has improved. Even though it is not the ideal way to achieve realism, I often catch myself relying on being able to sufficiently shade to make inaccurate proportions look passable. Through learning the theory behind where all the joints are, and how I can use shapes and sizes in relation to each other, I feel that I am on the way to creating work that is much more compelling and hopefully true to life.

Aside from this, I learnt about how valuable high quality paints are. They’re much more pigmented and bright, and I feel they have a more workable consistency. This high quality paint combined with the medium made painting much more enjoyable, and made the results I wanted easier and quicker to reach. I do, however, wish that I was using these paints on a canvas. Although it would’ve been even more expensive, I feel that I would have had an even better experience without having to deal with the wrinkling of the paper. I never would have bought these paints if I wasn’t forced to for the class. Despite the fact that I almost shed a tear at the BLICK counter when I was told that my total was 76 dollars, I’m glad I got to experience these materials.
