The first and second images are the group project we did using yarn. We taped the yarn onto different objects in the classroom, make them connect to a same spot and make them interact to others. Looking at the spaces that created in between the single lines, I drew down the interesting parts onto paper.
This image shows the initial model that I made to test the stability. I used two thick wires, bent them into shapes and try to make them support on one another.
The materials that I used are steel wires in 3 different sizes. I created a strong structure first using thick wires, connecting them into a standing 3 dimensional figures, then filled the planes with thinner wires to create shapes.
My biggest struggle during the making process was bending and cutting the thickest wire, and I also find it difficult to build a perfect angle for the wires to stand stably on a surface. During the making process, I was surprised by how easy the thinner ones could shape compare to the thicker ones.
I learned that it is essential to build a strong shape, a stable structure before working on more specific details. Being able to use the tools is also a useful skill that I learned during the process. I also became more thoughtful before bending a wire, because I learned that it could be difficult to bend the wire back to a perfect straight form again.
