The “LOVE” sculpture is a pop art piece made by Robert Indiana. It was made in 1970, now locating on West 55th, 6th Ave in NYC.
The sculpture composed with the letter “L” and “O” on top, letter “V” and “E” on the bottom. The “O” is slightly tilted to the right. The letters are in a very large scale, tightly placed next to each other. On the bottom, it is sitting on a black base with rectangular shape. The base is also made out of a metal material.
This piece is about 4 meters tall, 3.5 meter wide. The entire sculpture is made out of cortex steel, which is suitable for outdoor use.
The texture of the sculpture is very smooth. It is polished with gloss, which you could see the reflections of the buildings that are surrounded by it.
The colors that are used in this sculpture are very intense. The artist used different color on the sides of the letters. The color that covers on the outer side is red, and the inner side is blue. The big contrasted colors really stand out from the surroundings.
The sculpture is locating in the corner of 6th Ave and West 55th street, surrounded with buildings with beige tone. Behind the sculpture, there is a Bank of America across the street, which you could also see through the letter. There is also a fruit stand next to the sculpture.
