The name of this piece is called: “Hands Free” Shoulder Pole. It is capable of holding multiple bags and a cup at the same time. This tool is designed for those who need to free their hands while shopping.
I shaped a piece of wood into a curvy feature to fit the shoulders. Then, I used two thick wires, bend them into curves and connect them onto to the wood. For the joint between wires and wood, I drilled holes and locked them with screws. Considering the comfort of the shoulders, I used cotton and a piece of fabric, sewed into a small pad. I glued the pad onto the curve of the wood, wrapped and glued the whole piece with black yarn.
I learned that wire is a great form for shaping and sculpturing. Also, using a glue gun with glue stick makes it easy to connect different mediums together. Also, I really enjoy combining different materials together. If there’s anything that I would do differently, I would use thicker wires. Because a thick wires allows you to carry more weight without bending. I chose the subway station for the photograph. It is hard for me to take out my MTA card every time when I’m holding bags. But with the “Hands Free” shoulder Pole, it makes everything much easier.
