I chose to map my hometown of Lafayette, New Jersey. I first found it on google maps and chose to simplify it further by getting rid of unpopular roads and lakes. Because it is such a rural area, there weren’t any parks or train tracks to abstract. I chose to stick with the color scheme that google uses because it is easily decipherable and would make understanding the map easier.
I learned that we are often provided with much more information than we need. Perhaps not in this particular case, but in many situations a map of this simplicity would be completely usable.
