The Camera

Everyone has an avatar of them, and the avatar of their own however represents their personality and hold on to special meanings. This digital camera belongs to Una Liu; she majors in Fine Arts at Parsons School of Design. Una picks the camera as her avatar, in the meantime, she also reinvests new explanation into it.

The black camera can be held in the hands, as you see the scientific and authentic crafts of this camera give a sense feeling of modern. Camera’s development has been through centuries since 1550, and it was just a simple structural apparatus. After hundreds of years of scientists’ experiments and reinventing, the world finally had the first colored photo in 1861. The camera becomes a popular media nowadays. Photography derived from the cameras. Since the beginning of recording the images, photography is seen more as an expression of one’s style and an artistic form in the modern world. The photographs reveal the photographers’ state of mind; they convey ones’ emotions and aspirations. Una enjoins using the camera. She can record her memories and take pictures of what she sees, at first sight, a lot of surprises and new questions will bring to her. What is this? What is going on here? Why is it here? While exploring the surroundings, she likes to take photos and uses the pictures to help her memorize things and straighten out her minds. She believes that will give her time to sort through the thoughts. Tracing after the silhouettes with finger touches on the printed photos; reorganizing the memories to emerge the beautiful moments in life, these are her idea of fun.

Una has wanted to be a free photographer, and dedicate herself to it. Her goal is to take responsibility of being an observer, and to discover the truth of the world; she also wishes to be a revealer and let that kindness and darkness to be seen by the world. The world has never been quiet, whether from the past or present. It just feels like the voices and sounds still hovering over places, and they never stop. These places have their own stories, even though they’re unseen, the emotions still reach out to people. Something comes into Una’s eyes. She’s inspired. While picking up the camera as she quickly clicks on the shutter button, the time has frozen, it culminates into a moment which she would treasure forever. She has made up her mind to continue her “mission” as an experimenter, as to stand for the seeking of truth.

————————–

From transforming Una’s camera, I have learned to think out of box. I started thinking how to generalize the job that a camera does; what narratives I want to show, and how am i supposed to convince the audiences. I found out that the best way to perform the camera’s ability is to lay out the events and scenes it records., with honesty and authenticity. Thinking without limitations gives me more perspectives when I choose which media to work with.

I will keep up with planning on the sketchbook; it helps me with gathering my thoughts when it’s necessary. I also searched a lot of details about these incidents, but the numbers are variety. The authenticity of these events makes me want to invest more in the news and papers.
