POINTS OF A LINE, A FILM BY SARAH MORRIS, 2010

95459_91f4d2a53eb07ccb_b

We chose this poster because we like how it looks like a collage, and is composed by different dimensions. It’s a clash of 3d image and 2d drawings, but it reaches a harmony when they meet. We also like the color scheme, the bright red and jet black creates great contrast and thus attracts the attention from the viewers. It shows the viewer which is the central of the poster and what is the most important.

Poster 2

POSTER, DZIECKO ROSEMARY [ROSEMARY’S BABY], 1984

46889_66e04c6fdc6eccee_b

This is a poster designed by Andrzej Pagowski. Its medium is offset lithograph. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and combined with Graphic Design.

Andrzej Pagowski’s illustration subtly depicts the premise behind director Roman Polanski’s psychological horror film. The poster only hints at what sinister events may occur: the blown-up image of a woman’s hand holding a small grotesque claw is hand-drawn, with expressive sketch lines, in bright colors with a bold outline. Much is left to the viewer to decipher. Polish posters do not often “advertise” what they depict and instead provide space for consumers to draw their own conclusions.

The use of illustration technique and minimize use of color create a clean but dramatic picture of the poster. There are only five colors in the whole poster which are red, pink, black, white and green. But the use of these colors creates a sense of rich layer. Especially the prints on the right hand and the clean hand on the left creates a contrast which is very helpful to the balance of the poster.

POSTER, 1960/61 STADTTHEATER BASEL

[POSTER FOR THE 1960-61 SEASON OF THE CITY THEATER, BASEL]

The poster is designed by Armin Hofmann. In this poster, the designer uses drawings and prints to create a peculiar sense of feeling. We select this as one of our inspirations, because of it is a visually strong portrait photograph with good arrangement of design.  The blank space in the back gives us more imaginations. The color using in this poster is simple and clean, but it is not boring either. We can feel the emotions of this person, it is like telling a story and his reaction is grabbing our attentions.

Moodboard & Inspirations

Make a style statement for your team poster.  What are your goals for the poster media, color, mood and type?

-Style Statement

Our goals for the poster media is digital based. We want to simplify the color range and focus on the main character and his emotions. With the use of dark color to create a mood of darkness. And we also want to make the poster more suspicious, so that the audiences will interact with the poster once they see it. The type of our poster would be photograph and after effect.

Make a communication goal for your team poster.  What is the main message of your poster?  How does this message relate to your movie plot?

-Communication Goal

We aim to express the psychic state of the Beau through our poster. We want to let the viewers feel the madness and how he “become” a lion himself at the end of the film. Through the poster, it would be ideal if the viewers start to think about the dark side of humanity and how people cannot help themselves from falling into this state. This is the scene after the main character killed the lion, and going through a transformation.
