LION HEART FINAL MOVIE POSTER

The project is to make a movie poster for a film created by our own. The main idea is to use the movie poster we made to give the audiences an overall of our movie and attractions. In this project, the technique of photo shooting, editing and layout are used throughout the process.
Our movie is called Lion Heart. The main idea is about an innocent boy named Beau who always wants to be a great circus ringmaster transforms himself into a cruel man who has killed his lion and his father just like a wild animal. The boy himself with an inner side of a lion heart is the avatar of the movie.

Settings:

Location-         The Lion Circus, Lexington, Nebraska, USA

Time-              1960’s to 1970’s

Treatment excerption:

During the last training before the beginning of the final show, the lion gets out of control. It runs off from the cage. Beau has no way to flee away from it. After all these years, all the emotions inside himself finally explode. He has to kill the lion in order to keep himself safe. While he was fighting with the lion, he feels that the fight from the lion is just like him against with his old friend Chris. It makes his heat goes chaos. Then he killed the lion with an ex stuck into its’ heart. By the death of the lion, the dark side inside of Beau, which is to kill his old friend who had killed by the lion. At that moment, Beau believes that he gained that power. He feels he was powerful enough to get over his fear and transform into the strong power (since the lion and his friend both represent that power). He wants to become the strongness itself. At the end, Beau performances the most perfect and unbelievable circus show on the stage, which he receives the most resounding applause from people.

Beau’s father founds the hidden dead lion backstage, which killed by Beau. His father is ultimately furious at him. However, what his father only cares about is the loss of the lion. Beau imagines himself being the symbol of the strong power. He always wanted to fight against his father’s violence. The fight between the son and the father ends up with Beau killing his father. He stabs his own father, with the exact same dagger that he uses to kill the lion. Before his father dead, what his father sees in the eyes is a wild animal. The terrifying creature in front of him is not his son, but something else. Beau becomes a lion. He loses his mind, and all he lefts is the bestiality in his heart.

This is our inspiration board and we are aiming to create a fun but creepy poster that can show the mental craziness of our main character Beau. We want to play with color and shadow, and thus demonstrate the central idea of our movie.

  • First of all, Richard came up with the idea of Lion and Circus. We wanted to have different people come up with different storyline so we can choose the best one, but we end up all liking his idea and started to write the treatment about our movie.

  • After the movie treatment, we think Richard and beau share sort of same similarities, and thus we wanted to photo shoot Richard. There are several elements that we wanted to include in our poster: The shadow, colorful lighting, bloody mess, weapon (axe), and craziness. (During the photo shoot, we collaborated with Han, Ryan and Sarah. Grace did the make up and Jocelyn was the photographer, and we all helped each other’s group for the lighting.)

  • We finally chose these three out of all the photos.

  • We ended up choosing the first picture because we thought the first picture has the potential to create creepy and scary sense. Although the other two pictures conveyed a more melancholic atmosphere instead of horror, but they both in horizontal layouts. We each started using Photoshop to build the feeling that we want for our poster, and we had compared and contrasted these posts after; we developed the most favored elements, and composed them together. These are the three versions we built up at first:

Grace

  • After the discussions, we decided to choose Jocelyn’s and Grace’s color theme and Richard’s formatting. We used two different colors because we think these two colors demonstrated the movie in a unique way. Richard did most of the fonts and adjustments.
  • After the poster editing, we stopped for a second and to rethink adding the sticker-like movie texts that usually locate on the bottom or the top of a movie post. We tried out with this idea and it worked perfectly.
